Beach Most people come to The Gambia to enjoy the sun, sea and sand. The beach by the Senegambia hotel is only about half a mile walk from Mango Trees. One of our favourite places to relax on the beach is at Ley Bato, a guesthouse and restaurant where you are welcome to spend the day. It's a secluded area of beach with soft sand and very comfortable hammocks. We can recommend the juice sold on the beach and an excellent basket maker works nearby. Wildlife If you want to see some wildlife there are some interesting excursions within a short distance of Mango Trees. Abdu Rahman is always a good and reliable guide. Bijilo Forest Park - next to the Kololi Beach Club hotel. This is a very pleasant place for a walk under huge trees full of birds and monkeys. Kachikally Crocodile Pool - tucked inside the fascinating backstreets of Baku. The pool is considered sacred by the locals, its waters allegedly having healing properties. Huge crocodiles doze around it, some of which you can touch under supervision if interested - we were assured they'd had breakfast and lunch so weren't hungry! River Adventures Lamin Lodge - a day trip involving a river trip on a dug out canoe through the mangrove swamps and lunch at the lodge. The Gambia is a thin country following the banks of the River Gambia. We can help arrange fascinating adventures up-country away from the tourist trail for those who wish to explore beyond the beach. |
