The Gambia is known as the "smiling coast".  Its miles of golden sand on its Atlantic Coast and hospitable people make it a relaxing place for a sunshine holiday.  It is also a birdwatcher's paradise - The Gambia has more bird life per acre than any other country.  Bijilo forest near the coast offers easy birdwatching opportunities.  Alternatively you can take an adventure up-country away from the tourist trails.  We can help you arrange a visit.

The Gambia vibrates with local atmosphere.  Ladies wearing swathes of fabric dyed in bright primary colours walk along the roadside balancing heavy containers of water on their heads.  Boys sit next to wheelbarrows of oranges carefully removing the peel in strips, fishermen haul their catches up the beach and craftsmen deftly weave bamboo into baskets, shapes forming while you watch.  Delicious seasonal produce is available from the fruit and vegetable markets and roadside stalls and freshly-squeezed juice is sold on the beach for the equivalent of 50 pence.  A range of restaurants offer local and international cuisine to suit all tastes and budgets and those who like shopping can browse through drums, pictures, leather shoes, necklaces, clothes and basketware.  You might even chose to take home a kora, the Gambian stringed instrument.

High season is between October and May when the days are hot and nights are pleasant.  A bonus when travelling from the UK is that the flight is only five hours and The Gambia lies in the same time zone.

Escaping to The Gambia  to enjoy winter sun, delicious fresh food and a relaxed atmosphere is highly recommended.
